ZXL "was" my dream rod for sure. As said, sweet as butter. BUT, I made the mistake of casting a JWF...LOVE and now own that one too.

I guess I am one of the only dissenting votes. I actually don't think there is anything wrong with the ZXL, but before it I had a SLT. I heard the ZXL was the "new and improved" model, build to replace the SLT. So I proptly bought into the marketing hype and got a 5wt. Well it is fine, but I just never enjoyed it, never could find it's sweet spot when casting. I sold it and went back to my SLT's which I still like better.
So I guess my vote is it is fine, just wasn't great for me, and certainly wasn't an improvement, in my opinion.
Have fun with whatever you chose. Getting a new rod is fun!

The ZXL is a nice rod and I also almost bought one.....and then, like Joni, I tried a JWF! Haven't looked back at the ZXL and a JWF has been added to my rod rack.

Not to steer you away from it but if you go to tradenstuff.com there is a sage spl 7'4" 4 weight there for sale new.If i am totally mistaken that is the same rod i traded in for a T&T several years ago and he has still not sold it.I had several sages at the time and wanted to change up and had that rod unused,it was a sweet looking rod and would make a fine small stream trout rod.
