I was just wondering what happened to JW outfitters - they made the best rod cases.

They made a great fly tying travel case as well.

Unfortunately I don't think any of the companies SA bought survived - other than Charlton which SA 'cut loose' and I think is making reels - but they were uprooted from their WA location to Minnesota and I don't know where they are now. JW as far as I know is gone too. People in the trade I've talked with seem to think we will see more companies 'merging' (or bought out). Some of that was happening before the economic downturn, I hate to see folks lose their autonomy but money talks. And then there is the golden rule: He who has the gold rules.

    Deanna,

It would appear Jack Charlton is back in Burlington, WA making his "Mako Charlton" line of reels.
When you can arrange your affairs to go fishing, forget all the signs, homilies, advice and folklore. JUST GO.

I'm sorry to say, Jack Charlton passed away June 9, 2011.

I'm also sorry to hear that Dave. I was obviously unaware of his passing.

The Mako reels are still being made and sold out of Burlington according to the website.
