Thread: First Fish on a Fly Rod

Default First Fish on a Fly Rod

I've lurked here for awhile, and posted a couple of newbie questions regarding gear over the past 6-9 months. Thanks for all the advice. I used it to help me get properly geared up to fish in my area.

Today, on my 3rd day ever fly fishing for trout, I landed two native Cutthroat in the McKenzie River here in Oregon. It was one of the best experiences ever. I hooked one on a dry, and one on a nymph.

    I'm hooked for life.

Right on! What an awesome river to catch your fist! Years from now after you have spent all your money on ff gear and gone through multipal marriages you will be able to look back and remember where it all started. Just kidding. Congradulations and welcome to the club.

Congrat's on those McKenzie fish. I have caught just a few there myself. Wish there were more bank access there. Pretty limited without a boat.

Welcome to the site and continued success.

    ima,
That's fantastic! Here in Ohio, we only have 1 "native" trout stream, the Mad River, which I have yet to fish, but hope to this year. Obviously, then, all my trout to date have been "stockers", so I am in envy. You should be very proud!
