Thread: Teal Blue Silver...sort of

Thank you Donald, I'm only part time these days. I've got 30 hours a week at the local Coop, just to make sure the bills are paid.

Unlike some production tiers I don't tit to a rhythm, but tie each fly deliberately. I've also demonstrated a lot, which means knowing the fly you are tying well enough to be able to concentrate on the narrative, not the tying.

You may be interested to see this.

Its a wire woven body in the colours of a Peter Ross. I use it when I want something to fish a little deeper, usually to anchor a cast of 3 flies. It's about as heavy as using a small bead head.
Now its back to the vice to tie an order of dapping flies. And a friend wants some for early season salmon on Loch Brora. He'll dap while I fish the wet fly.

    Cheers,
    Alan.

Wow! That woven wire body is amazing!
Love the Teal wing, too. That looks perfect. I need to get some Teal feathers...

I've read about a variation on the Peter Ross where the fellow mixed in some orange with the red, and found these very effective when there were alevin stage fish fry about (still with the egg sack). I've tied a few up, but haven't noticed them to be any more effective than a standard tie. Mind you, I've not really done the fair test as I should be using them when the fry are just emerging from the nests. If I had the luxury to plan my trips with such things in mind I might do so, however, for now I use them when they shout "pick me" louder than the other flies in my box!

Tim "Panman" sent me some Teal feathers! Thanks Tim!
So...had to tie up a BONA FIDE Teal Blue Silver:

Tim sent more than just the barred feathers. He also sent some teal feathers that have single spots on them, which I thought would make a good "eye spot" on a streamer. So, I tied up a #4 Black Ghost and used those eyespot feathers. I ended up tying 3 Teal Blue Silvers this weekend, two #8's and a #12.

Thanks again, Tim! A couple streamers are heading your way...
