Most importantly, it is not the quantity of fish, but the quakity of the experience. HAVE FUN!!!!!! and fish like nobody is watching you.

Hi there, welcome to the wonderfull world of fly fishing, my own top tip would be to join a local club. I wish I had done so early in my fly fishing days it could have saved me a lot of time and a lot of trial and error. Mind you the trial and error part is half the fun.
    All the best.
    Mike.

    ^^^

Just go fishing. No matter how much research or advice you get, our hobby is essentially one of trial and error. The best way to learn to fish is to spend a lot of time on the water.

    Wow.
    1) Thanks everybody! I'm sorry I didnt reply sooner I was having computer problems yesterday morning. Then yesterday afternoon I went out to a local lake that has a lot of open space to cast. I of course was doing terribly when I noticed accross the lake a guy casting what looked to me as expertly. I said what the heck and went over to him. He gave me an hour long casting lesson and lo and behold I started casting the fly and it landed straight (15 feet ) out in front of me. AND THEN.....I caught a little bass!!!(out of season Well know I am hooked on fly fishing and you weill be seeing a lot of me here....
Again, you guys are all amazing thank you so much!!!!!

    Rawfish,
Isn't it GREAT? It is actually difficult to run into a flyfisher who is NOT helpful!
Glad to see the site won you over...ENJOY!

    keep it simple stupid

never think that one particular piece of equipment will make fishing a success.

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.
