Thread: Anyone tried the Cabela's glass rods yet?

    I've got the 6'6" 4wt and the 5/6wt. Like them both a lot. The taper is old school, but the glass is definitely modern, so it is a bit faster than the original hollow glass rods were. Having said that, it's still magnitudes slower than most modern graphite rods. The key is to let the rod do the work. If you power the stroke at all you are going to over power the rod. Take it easy, take it slow, the rod will do the rest.
    If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

    On Sunday I was at the Cabela's store out of Reno. They had 1 of the 6'6" 4wt 50th anniversary rods left in stock; now they have zero. Handles 20 to 30 feet of DT4 line with ease, but that's about it's max. Again as with my 3wt, the components and finish are all first rate; very nice rod for the price.
