Thread: fly guide size, single foot vs snake

Default fly guide size, single foot vs snake

Just noticed on J Stockard's site that the recommended guide sizes go up by one size when using single foot vs traditional snakes. Interesting, is this a common practice? Have very little experience with single foot guides.

    Thanks, John

Yes. You need to consider that a single foot guide is a closed circle where a snake guide actually has quite a bit of room for knots to pass through. Properly sized, there is no difference in performance but a single foot guide takes half the time to wrap of a double foot snake guide.
