    Default Bamboo Military Rod

This rod is built on a Leonard 804 blank from Angler's Roost. Teak reel seat insert with custom turned grip. The guides are wrapped in black silk with gold tipping.

The rod includes the recipient's rank insignia wrapped in thread as well as a small gold band to commemorate the fact that his wife held the family together for all these many years while he was a soldier.

The other wraps in the butt section are his medals/ribbons I assume?

Yes, the silver and black wrap just above the inscription is his rank insignia, CW5, followed by several meritorious service ribbons. The last two are for the current Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns.

really cool... I dislike ornamental thread wraps in general, but those medal drapes/ribbons are excellent. I've never seen it done before. great idea.

Excellent looking rod. Giving a nod to the military wife is a touch of class often overlooked. Well done.
