    Default The hexes are coming!

The last three nights in a row I've seen hexes coming off here. It's evening and night fishing, but the warmwater fishies go nuts for these big ol' yellow mayflies! Most of the ones I'm seeing are size 6-8 with a few 4's scattered around.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

That's some good news! I guess I need to tie up a couple of the hex flies I've been thinking over.... see if they'll work.

With all of our trout streams blown out by recent rains I'm going to check out the warm water action for the hex hatch tonight. I tied up another wiggle nymph rather than dig one out of the steelhead box and then did a #6 comparadun to go with it. I'm heading for a backwater of the grand river with pike, bass, and pan fish so hopefully something will like them.

rainbowchaser - Just talked to my friend from back home yesterday. He did well fishing gils on a small lake north of Montague. Lots of fish 8-9+". I think he said he kept 15 fish and could barley close a qt bag.

I goofed yesterday. The park I went to closed at ten o'clock and I had to quit early. Wingsdlc, some of those little lakes in the Manistee National forest can produce some great fishing. My dad and I used to drive two hours to one little lake with only a carry down boat access to limit out and drive two hours home if we really needed fish for a fish-fry. It is as close to a sure thing as I know of in fishing
