I caught this one on an orange egg pattern in a NYC lake.

orange egg? ive never thought of using an egg pattern for carp. nice catch by the way.
That is a great catch Bill. What would make it extraordinary is if you caught it during the Subway Series. That would be a dedicated angler in NY.
Thanks Old Man GO IRISH!
I heard from a friend that carp will take an orange egg pattern( dry or wet). I used a few drops of water shed on the pattern to get this clooper.
this carp was caught friday evening during the series w/ deer hair fly.
Holy cow !...Well done
Thanks Old Man GO IRISH!
Fantastic captures as the Brits would say. I really enjoy chasing these guys too. With the price of gas going for a crazy amount and the weeds on the small spring creeks getting taller and taller, I am getting ready to leave the trout behind and almost exclusively chase carp with my fly rod.
Did you take the one after dark?
I exclusively sight fish them. I see the fish that I want, cast to it and watch the take; I then set the hook on site alone since it is a very rare thing to even see the slightest line movement.
Glad that you are having fun.
Rick
I hooked the fish in the day light but by the time I was able to get him on land, it was dark ( more than 30 minutes).
I landed one ONCE with a 3 weight and 6X tippet that took 52 minutes by my watch to land. Like I said, ONCE! Now I use a 7 wt most of the time and in heavier current I have an 8, 9 and even a TEN that makes little puppy dogs out of them on a leash. 7 wt most of the time and it's easier on the fish and easier on me.
Glad that you are having fun.
Rick
