Hi all;
Picked some punch yarn up on ebay recently, was wondering if there were any patterns that called for punch yarn.
Any suggestions on how else to use it??
Thanks in advance;

Al Campbell has a ton of flys called "Too Simple" that use punch yard. Search for them on the main page here.
Use it for bodies on soft hackle flies. Also weave two color bodies for the soft hackles.

I sub it in on many of my patterns where tight dubbing is called for. In addition to what is listed above, I also use it on PTN abdomens and elk hair caddis bodies in order to create color variations. The trout around here like lighter colors. It is great material.

new2fly: thanks, I thought there were some here but had some difficulty searching for them
Rick Z: Thanks for the ideas, and pointing this material out to me at SowBug.
ol' Blue: thanks, what color are you using for thr PTN abdomens?

I've been putting on anything from cream to pale yellow to tan. I've even done some bright yellow and green for fun.
Try this for too simple patterns: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/alcampbell/archive.php

Bright yellow PTN, you say? Hmmmmm....... (you know where to find me tonight! I'll be playing with a PTN pattern to show the 'gills at the pits)
I use punch yarn for woven bodies on several different patterns. Look up the Granny Weave on the Advanced Fly Tying section here. It's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and they look sweet!
The Green Hornet strikes again!!!
Punch Yarn is fantastic stuff! I use it for a lot of things such as:
I will use it as an underbody to build up a body in the shape I want and then cover it with dubbing or other material called for in a pattern.
I use it for the body when I make leech patterns. You can palmer the leech yarn over the punch yarn and then brush it good.
I use yellow punch yarn for a body and a piece of black punch yarn pulled over the top and then palmer a hackle over it to make my version of a crackleback.
When I tie up John Scott's PSC, I always put lead wraps on the hook shank and cover it with punch yarn before tying up the PSC.
I have even cut up some punch yarn in smaller pieces and put into a coffee bean grinder and made some great dubbing with it.
There are many other ways I use it, but, will not bore you any more. Just let your creative side take over and you can use it for many things. It can be used anywhere a pattern calls for Uni-Yarn also.
Have fun with it.....

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.
