    Default Question for FlyGoddess

If you don't mind sharing your knowledge, what kind of a fly is a Purple Showgirl and how do I tie it? If there is any doubt any anyones mind about this Q, just look at her fish photos!!

Full instructions are in Bill Schiess "Fishing Henry's Lake" (which if you plan on going is must reading, not only points out which flies, but where and when to fish the lake.)
    Anyway, real easy.
    HOOK: Dai-Riki #700 size#4-#8
    TAIL: Black Marabou
BODY: Purple or Black Crystal Chenille
    Overwing: Black Marabou

Tie in a clump of Marabou for the tail the length of hook, wrap the Chenille and then tie another clump of Marabou at the eye as an over wing. The over wing should be no shorter than the body.
Now I also tie this weighted with 10 wraps of 0.015 lead and unweighted.
I also add 4 strips of Flashabou (not crystal flash)to the eye on top of the overwing.
Let me know if this helps.

The "Showgirl" series of flies were created by our friend George Cook. The basic tie is here: [url=http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/atlantic/wet/wet140.html:a3da5]http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/atlantic/wet/wet140.html[/url:a3da5]

Wow! the one LadyFisher has looks like Steelhead fly (Like the Gartside Softhackles I use) I might have miss lead you. I am only familiar with the Purple Showgirl that Bill Schiess sells for Henry's and that is the one I explained to you. That is the one I use specially at Strawberry and a couple of places in Idaho.

Actually George created it for salmon in Alaksa, but it is used for much more...
The Popcycle is another of the same ilk.
You'll find a bunch of them in our Atlantic Flies series.
