    Default Hooks for Klinkhammers

    A quick question

When you are tying Klinkhammers, do you use the Partridge 15BN Klinkhammer hooks, or thePartridge 15BNX Klinkhammer hooks, or something else?

    TIA

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.

I use the X, though their sizes, to me, seem to be about a size bigger than listed (ie. my 18s are what I'd call a 16)

I've only used the BN hooks. But I actually like the looks of the BNX hooks a bit better. I would use which ever one my fly shop happened to stock (currently the BN for me). But if my shop had the BNX, I'd probably switch to it.

BNX is what I use, in small sizes 18 and 20

what did y'all use before the partridge hooks became available? the original klinker was tied on a bent hook.

I have always used TMC 2488, or if I want a longer look I use a TMC 2312 and put an additional bend at the abdomen/thorax junction.

Partridge 15BN, but like Chewydog, also like the TMC2488, as well as the TMC2487. Much prefer Quigley Cripples for emerger/cripple patterns, which just use a straight shank hook.

Bought some Daiichi 1730s to try these on. I like the idea of a 3XL body bent so the longer part hangs down. I have tied them on scud hooks too.

I like the visibility, but tie a lot more of Cutter's E/C Caddis with a bi-viz or neon colored post because they work well out here.

When I was at the FFF Conclave in West Yellowstone the fellow that owns Grip hooks was tying a Klinhammer on one of his scud hooks. I don't remember which it was but it did make a very nice tie.
