Default Wisconsin Phases Out Trout Stamp Competition

    http://dnr.wi.gov/fish/stampcontest/
I just heard that the WDNR has phased out the yearly Trout Stamp Competition for 2011. Is this true with the other stamps? My dad use to collect the old stamps and have them in a shadow box.
    They were always beautiful.
You will still need to purchase the stamp for trout but it just isn't going to be the same. All it will be now is a computer generated notation on your license.

The trout regulations pamphlet typically has the trout stamp winner on the cover.

Really? This is really too bad. I always made it a point to drive down to GEF2, just so I could get the actual stamp(s). I am bummed!

submitted 30 photos to the state to consider for the cover of the trout regulations.
They picked one of mine. It is at the printer.

DNR is giving me photo credit.
I have donated photos to the Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine in the past.

I need a new camera. My Canon G10 has disappointed me numerous times.

Not sure what to get to replace it. For NOT a DSLR. Will not fit in my vest pocket.

Don't like the new underwater cameras because it causes over-handling of the trout to get photos.

My underwate/waterproof cameras ( 2 Pentax W's) are used with emphasis on the "waterproof" aspect. BUT, in my humble opinion, underwater fish pics require LESS "handling" of fish than do conventional out of water ones. I suppose, ANY time a fish is "handled" for picture taking is not that good for the fish, BUT, then again, better that than the creel ( for the fish , that is).

watched four different guys use underwater cameras and this caused me to dislike them.
They were typically very good anglers and let the trout go properly. I even suggested to one
that he probably killed the trout with his overhandling and should consider harvesting it. He refused.
We walked back the same way we went fishing and the trout was dead on the bottom. I waded out
to the top of my waders and took the dead trout to the owner of the new fangled camera. He agreed
with me and took it home. On the way home he asked me how to clean a trout and prepare them because
he had never done it before. I have fished with this guy 30 times over a 6 year period. The New Age Angler.

WOW! Beautiful picture, Len!! That right there is the reason Brook Trout is so high on my new species "wish list"!!

Iowa did away with their Trout Stamp program a few years ago, too. It is just an additional fee on the fishing license now.

Pennsylvania did away with ours a few years back. Went from gorgeous art to an ugly print out on your license.
