Default Reminder ... with a twist

Tonight is the night that many of us turn our clocks BACK one hour, and my usual is to remind you not only that but to change out the batteries in your smoke alarms. This fall there's a twist to it. If your smoke alarms/detectors are over 10 years old, they may no longer have the "sensing" ability when needed. The test button will work, either hard wired or battery, because the wiring or battery is fine, but the actual sensors may not work when needed. It's been recommended that if your detectors are over 10 years old, they should be replaced.

    Be safe, and on time!!

    Betty,
    1) in the morning i will burn the bacon a little bit. betcha the alarm goes off, like every time! lamb chops work, too.

    2) is it still possible to call the local firehouse (we're in a city, and it's down the block) and ask for some help in getting to the detectors that are really 'way up there? we have high ceilings, and the ones over the stairs are really scary to change.

If you check with your local Fire Dept. they may replace the smoke alarms free or for a reduced price. My brother who works for KCMO FD replaces mine, it makes him feel like he is working.

Replaced 3 of the 6 detectors we have in the house ... gotta spread the expense out a bit! The hard wire ones are incredibly easy to change out! All of ours are hard wired, so I replaced one of them with a combination hard wire and battery back up!

Always surprises me what I'm capable of doing if given the opportunity!!!

Your post reminds me of the episode of Monk when he take his twenty smoke detectors to the local fire house and
the firemen sit around smoking cigars testing them for him... lol
