    Default Swing Cast

I've been researching some wet fly patterns to tie up for a friend of mine and noticed that allot of them refer to a "Swing Cast" type presentation for most wet flies. What exactly is a Swing Cast?? I don't fish for trout myself but was really curious as to what type of cast this is?

    Thx's

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.

Wes got it Mike. I would like to add that many people are too quick lift and make a new cast. A lot of hooks up occur at the end of the swing as the fly begins to rise.

and let it hang a bit after the rise then strip a few times. the strike is smashing.

Thanks Wes, very informative article. I personal don't fish many wet flies for trout, mainly a warmwater panfish and bass. But it would be good to know should the need arise. Looks like it takes a little practice to master this type of cast.

Swinging a wet fly is not just for trout. It works well on warmwater species in moving waters also

Yea I can see that working well too. I just got finished reading through that article that Wes had posted and can see how this would come in handy. Once I can use my shoulder again and actually be able to cast a rod again I will be practicing for sure. Haven't been able to cast a fly rod most of this season unfortunately

Rollcasting down and across is the easiest way to get newbies and kids into trout.
