Thread: Humble Pie

    Default Humble Pie

That stuff doesn't taste near as good as I remember! I fished the Beaver tailwater this morning, and felt like a complete idiot. "Real" trout fishing for the first time, I had no clue what I was looking for or how to present the flies properly.
Started out fishing a #18 zebra midge about 3ft under an indicator... Nothing. Switched to an olive Bird's Nest.... nothing. Cast that for quite a while, as a matter of fact. I saw a couple swirls and cast toward them, but no dice.

The scenery was BEAUTIFUL, and I did learn a few things: 1) that crystal clear water is deeper than I thought. 2) hip waders aren't enough to get where I needed to go. 3) that water is COLD!

I took some pictures. The fog was still on the water at 10:30 when I left!

I hope you didn't learn that the way I think you learned it.

Just be happy that it wasn't mid December with your posterior slogging in the duck march - I know - been there, done that.

    Two things:
    1) Fishing the Beaver Tailwater is not "real" trout fishing.
    2) I told you that place was awful.

Patrick, you should see where I normally fish for trout... This is Shangri La compared to it!

Yeah, but you can listen to the lions roar while you're fishing in a snowstorm. How cool it that?

Greg, it is VERY cool to hear the lion roaring! Gives me the heebie jeebies when I'm there about sunset though. (watched "The Ghost and the Darkness" a few too many times)

Another cool place to go right now is McPherson SFL and listen to the elk bugle while catching crappie and gills...
