    Default Labor Day

We took a little family get away to the mountains for the long Labor Day weekend and although it wasn't the focus of the trip I did manage to get a little fishing in. My little family and one of my buddies and his family headed north to our retreat up in the New Meadows area of Central Idaho. My buddy and I knew we wanted to get out at least once over the weekend so we snuck out Saturday morning before anyone else in the house was up and hit a nearby high elevation reservoir in my kayak.

I had never fished here and am not particularly a still water master but I have found that often when fishing these high elevation lakes you can't go wrong tying on a #10 olive woolly bugger. So that's what I did. It didn't take long to get into fish and although none were particularly large they provided a good bend to the rod. I am always surprised how hard still water fish pull when I do on occasion get out and fish them. Not much for pics on this outing since it was a short two hour jaunt but here are a couple of the specimen that came from the waters.

Fun to get out and do a little different kind of fishing than I usually do.

So, Ben, how's it feel to expand your horizons?

Looks like you had a great time. Although I barely recognized you with a rainbow in your hand...

    Default Back to the Homewater

Well I could only stay away from my homewater so long. This morning I hit my new favorite run that I call Coyote Alley. I knew it would be a good morning when I saw that it was supposed to be cloudy all night and into the morning. The fish really like those overcast days it seems. The two best outings I have had here all summer were cloudy mornings. This one did not disappoint. I netted an even dozen fat fish in two hours. On to the pictures:

Very nice! Olive wooly buggers with grizzle hackles have netted me some nice ones in the lakes as well. And those are some nice browns and great shots! Fun stuff.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. That first fish measured 22 inches. Not the biggest of the year but it was probably the heaviest.
