    Default fringe bead egg

    fringe bead egg

insert the bead onto the hook

    insert hook in vise

lay a base of red thread

slide bead onto the thread base

wrap thread dam on both sides of the bead to prevent the bead from sliding on the hook

    whip finish and cut thread

apply head cement, epoxy or one of the new uv cure glues to hold bead in place

The hook you are using and the bead you are using (as shown), will most likely cause the hook to travel hook spear up, changing the the center of gravity of the hook. This is not a bad thing, with the offset bead near the hooks eye, you just created a jig hook for along the stream bed, with less chance of hooking into bottom debris.

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.

that would lend itself totally awesome to the "sucker spawn" pattern.
