I'm going to be relying on two patterns this season - tied to imitate both crickets and hoppers.

    Parachute and A.K.'s Hoppers

I tied up a couple of these the other day after watching the video and they are great little hopper that produce results. As with most all Davie's flies he's one of the best

Ed Shenks' Letort Cricket in black &/or brown along with the Letort hopper in yellow, olive &/or greenish-yellowy mix are easy ties on 2X long dry fly hooks from size #8 - #16 or even larger. For years I've usually modified the recipe to add back legs to both patterns as bass & panfish seem to hit the dangling leg flies more than without, but the trout didn't seem to care unless they got very selective as they were the smaller sized flies.

I agree with you on McPhail's flies, Mike. I really enjoy watching him tie his flies, but sometimes I wish he'd include subtitles in his videos. I can't always understand what he's saying and I'm sure I'm missing something important!
I am also a fan of the Charlie Boy Hopper.

He's speaking Scottish Joe. Try a wee dram before watching.

As for hoppers I have always stuck to Dave's, Joe's or Henry's fork types.

Smile Looking forward to another season ...

    ... with my FEB Hopper.

And even if this summer doesn't turn out to have, as predicted, one of the biggest hopper infestations of the last thirty years, the FEB Hopper doubles very nicely as a Golden Stone !!

Wow... So far from what you guys have shown me the Letort and McFails look the easiest... I think I'll have to whip some of those out for a try. McFails looks the easiest so far, but the Letort doesn't look bad either.
