Fly fishing with 15 innercity children

Each year the Three Rivers Fly Fishers from Ft Wayne Ind has a day of fly fishing for children. Saturday was for Big Brother Big Sister innercity children--15 with club members for a one on one day of fly fishing. They were divided into three rotating groups one tying their first wollybugger, another with our entomologist netting stone fly and other larva and the third learning to cast. Children lean to cast faster than a adult. Off to a well stocked pond for three hours of fishing with the fly they tied. And catch fish they did---their first live bluegill and bass. BILL

Fifteen volunteers! And fifteen lucky kids Wonderful.

I wonder when the last time was that any of us faced something totally new? To dare attempt anything positive but outside the comfort zone, well, it's a goal in itself. Having a safe, friendly hand of guidance right there, someone who models the good in the experience, certainly tilts the odds in the right direction. NIce.

Gotta love those blue gills for being cooperative, too.

Bill, who had the most fun, the ''adults'' or the 15 innercity kids? I'd be willing to bet the adults had the most fun but just let the kids think it was them. I know if I was the one in your shoes I would be having the most fun, Everyone won in this fishing trip. Good for you and your fishing club. Take care, John.

Breamchaser of course the adults had fun but to hear an 8 year old screaming across the pond-- Im sure the kids were also having fun. Try to get a youngster to put their finger in a bass mouth to have a picture taken. BILL
