What the heck is that?? ... on another thread ... instead of hijacking, ... I'll start this one.



Actually, ... it's for trout ... I used to tye mice for evening surface action. Me and a Bud thought the bigger the better. We ended up making these.

I use marabou for the tail as it's lighter and easier (for me) to manipulate than leather tails.

Dead drifted or "popped", ... the bruisers LOVE 'EM !!

Oh, ... and you DO have to stiffen up the tippet a tad to get them to turn over

Chris, can you share the recipe? Looks like deer hair and the Maribou tail, anything else, and how did you get the tail like that?

Hey Zim!, ... How goes our resident Rx man?

The recipe is as you see it.

The marabou gets "thin" when the "fly" (mouse) is streaming, ... so I use LOTS.

It's just a freak of nature that it looks "combed" in the photo.

I have really cheap deer hair, ... so the bigger the better.

The fly is tyed on a stinger hook (mustad) which had an EMORMOUS gage.

Actually, ... I think I first tyed this type of rat when a friend noticed that I can'y pack deer hair very well. I said that on occassions, ... it's not needed and proceeded to create this monstrosity. Next day, ... it landed a nice brookie, ... 'bout 4 lbs

I like it, I think it would work on most species, bass, crappie, etc... as well as trout. I haven't mastered or even tried spinning deer hair, my brother is pretty good at it, but I will give it a whirl. I think I will try to make it as ugly as possible!!!

Mice are great. They make great gifts too. My largest flyrod fish was taken on a deer-hair mouse. This year I have been playing with cross-cut rabbit over a underlay of foam on a trailer hook setup to give the body a bit more swimming action and make it a bit larger.

I'm pretty pathetic at spinning deer hair, ... so I'll trade flies for my muddlers
