    Default Squirrel Problem

I have 5 walnut trees within 30 yards of my house.
Every tree in my yard and all my neighbors yards
have squirrel nests. At least FIVE nests a tree.

I guess the squirrel population has boomed and
they need to expand their housing. I have a couple
that have chewed holes in my eaves and have taken
    up residence in my house.

I fixed the holes with chicken wire and even tried to spray
a squirrel repelant concoction I got off the internet. It
    did not work.

I did a little research and there is a guy in Richland Center
called Terry Sime that does pest removal. I thought the name
was familiar. I called him and low and behold he is a Gays Mills
    Guy. MY HOMETOWN.

Terry lent me one of his live traps and it is already in place on the roof.

If I catch any I will drive them way out in the country and let them go.
There are lots of squirrels in the area. I will update this squirrel fiasco
daily for a week on my blog.

You need a Guard Poodle! We don't have that many squirrels, but the Guard Poodle keeps them at bay. Although, if the Guard Poodle is napping in the yard, I have actually seen squirrels sneak up on her and reach out with a tiny little squirrel paw and tap her, then run like h*ll. You can almost hear the "TAG! You're IT!"

It would probably help if you were not hand feeding them, too.

From that picture I suppose squirrel stew is not an option!

I could sure tie some nice flies with that tail.

Get yourself a dog. A Lab, poodle, or some type of hunting dog. That won't hurt them, just keep them away.

Otherwsie, you are doomed to 'problem squirrels' until you either shoot them all or move.

If you didn't live so far away, I'd stop by with my pellet rifle and treat myself to some tails and your family to squirrel stew dinner....

    Good Luck!

So many squirrels, so many flies using squirrel. You have a live trap, you need flies...why waste gas driving out to the country?

A BB or pellet gun has always been my choice for squirrel control. Quick, quiet, and effective. Just be sure of your target and the things behind and beyond it.

Len, I don't know about Wisconsin, but relocating squirrels etc... in Tennessee without a permit is illegal. Several parasite and disease problems have been spread much faster due to relocation of suburban squirrels, raccoons, etc... At least one research study was destroyed by relocated squirrels.

I got the information from the local police.
This is the way do it when they have squirrel problems.

Trap has been in place for 24 hours.
    No takers.

Maybe my Anti-Squirrel Concoction took a while to work.

    Dish washing liquid/cayenne pepper/black pepper/chill powder/ cinnamon/water.
Shook up in spray bottle and applied liberally to the eves and chewed areas.

I checked the trap three times to make sure not malfunctioning.
    Food still full.

What are you using for bait? I know a man that was having the same problems except with raccoons. He couldn't catch any, untill he tried baiting the live trap with honey buns. I don't know about squirells but apparently raccoons have a sweet tooth. Might work with squirells too. It sort of makes sense if you think about it. If your trap is baited with something the squirells can get readily enough elsewhere, they aren't as apt to try it. But the sweet smell of a honey bun is hard to resist, and I suspect its hard to come by in a walnut tree.
