Default Fishing near Battle Mountain, Nevada

Over spring break, my mom, brother, and me will be going to nevada, where my step-dad is working. The town of Battle MOuntain is about a half hour from Elco, Nevada, I believe. Does anyone know of any fishing spots in this area? Thanks for any input.

    David,

Believe it or not, there is trout fishing out there in the Great Basin; it's just very widely scattered. In April your best bet would probably be the Humbolt River Tailwater below South Fork Reservoir. South Fork is about 20 miles South of Elko off state highway 227. The reservoir itself can fish well, but you really need a boat to get to the best fishing, and in April you could still encounter shore ice.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge there are no fly shops in Elko so there's really not anyone to contact for current info. You might check out this website for information on fishing around Elko, [url=http://www.fishsniffer.com/steelhead/041025elko.html.:75917]http://www.fishsniffer.com/steelhead/041025elko.html.[/url:75917]

There are a couple of other reservoirs near Battle Mountain such as Wild Hourse, Wilson, and Crittenden. The only problem is they freeze in winter. You can also fish the Humboldt River outside of Battle Mountain. I would suggest driving to beowawe, and following the train tracks. Have fun, good luck.

If you have a 4wd, you can explore some of the range fronts. One canyon that should hold fish, but might not be fishable that time of year, is Lamoille Canyon SE of Elko.

Enjoy Battle Mountain. I have some interesting memories of that town...
