go to your local big box craft store and get some needle threaders for about $1.79
I totally agree on the tool; however, those with the thin aluminum body, as shown, are very fragile. The wite pulls out in no time flat! Go to a good fabric/sewing machine shop, like Singer, and spend a few more pennies on those with the modled plastic body which have the wire embedded in the plastic. They last forever!
Can you get them that small?
Here's what I use:

The fly threaders in that Orvis flybox come in different sizes and the threader size you want is the midge size has a red plastic handle.
These threaders can be purchased separately.
I took a 3 strand 15 lb. wire leader, unravelled it and made a threader out of one strand of the wire. I had broken the wire on a threader that came with my fly box. I have tried the needle threaders but could not find one small enough for a small fly but it was the cheap version, I didn't know there was a upgrade available.

Has a reamer, magnifier with is on an arm that is adjustable..and the magnifier that also adjusts...so you can get it right over the fly.
Also has the nipper....and then the the threader. No bigger than a normal nipper. But the little threader is inside and protected. You slide it out and it is a diamond shaped wire that pops out.....and you can put the magnifier over it. Says it will thread down to size 32. I just bought one, pretty slick looking and handling....but have not tried to thread ANY fly with it yet.
