Default Fishing on the Fall River, OR

Hey, just thought I'd let ya'll know, I just got my invite to my uncles annual trip to the Fall River April 19th-23rd, so anyone with any good patterns for me to try while I'm there (I've tied up a bunch of my Blue Jay Olives, some Adams, and some Griffiths Gnats), or for any of you locals, if you want to join me there and (hopefully) get a look at the rod I'm working on, just let me know.

JOe, you will have a blast. Log on to [url=http://www.westfly.com:75e8a]www.westfly.com[/url:75e8a] and go to the Oregon forum. Do a search and you will have all the information you will need. Have fun and say hi to the BRowns.

    Photojoe,

Here's a short list for you in addition to what you already mentioned:

Sparkle Duns in 16-20 with olive - gray bodies
p.chutes - same sizes and colors
Black EHC in size 16 or so (for our small winter stones)
CDC loop wing emergers can be very nice on the fall
    Bead Head Prince nymphs
Pheasant Tails (reg. and soft hackle)
    ZEBRA MIDGES
A selection of Wooly Buggers in various colors down to size 12

Remember that the Fall is fly only water, so that means no external weight. Make sure that you have some weighted nymphs in your box. Have fun, and expect some crowds. The Fall is just about the only thing fishing here right now, so it has been even busier than usual lately.

Go to the Riffle Fly Shops web site and check out their fishing report. They are usually the most up to date and always have a list of what flies to try.

Having lived just a few miles from the hatchery for a number of years I spent alot of time fishing the Fall.

Egg patterns work extremely well in this river. Make sure you have some with you. If you cannot get them to take anything else sight fish and dead drift them in front of the fish and hold on.

Another observation I found is when I would fish from the campground to the headwaters during the winter months and the fish were feeding on the surface I would catch many more going down to a size 24 or 26 midge pupas on a 14' 7x flourocarbon leader.

This stretch of the river gets most of the fishing pressure besides the hatchery area.

As clear as this river is, you will find out what I mean quickly.

    Hope this helps, Rob

Small brassies are good and simple to tie.
