90% of the time I whip by hand.
When I do you use a whip finisher, I'd guess I split evenly between a Materelli and a Thompson.
I find the Thompson most useful when tying off a parachute on the hook.

Started with a Thompson, and never liked it. Went to a Matarelli, and won't ever use anything else.

Matarelli. Several times faster & neater than any other method for me. 5 second to throw 2 whip finishes on a fly? Yes please.
i use both each has it own uses.
