I was asked to drive down to the White River (AR) once by a fairly well known guide for a float fishing trip he wanted me to write an article about since he was venturing out "solo" after working for Gaston's for a decade.
When I arrived, there was no boat and he was sitting on his tailgate drinking beer three sheets to the wind. At least he was smart enough not to bring the boat.
I had driven 2 hours and the water below Bull Shoals Dam was wadable. So I decided to fish for awhile. He put on his waders and stumbled along behind me, trying to coach me on "the finer points" of dead drifting a midge to stockers. Once I was sufficiently annoyed, I called it a day.
About 2 weeks later, he actually asked me when he should expect to see the article and was really upset when I told him he should hope to never see it, so I was doing him a favor by not writing one.
Absolutely no excuse for that. I know here in Arkansas, I wish the requirements were a bit more strengent.
