I never thought of using the scissors to bend the fibers.

I'd been tying for ten years before I figured out that when they stated 'folded' hackle, all they meant was slightly angled into a 'V' shape.
You have no idea how many hours I spent trying to actually 'fold' the sides of the hackle together like a closed hinge....
Cool tip. Like Scott, I'd always used the edge of the desk. This is much easier.

I learned that scissor folding technique from John Shewey several years ago. It really changed the way I tie wet fly hackles for everything from smaller nymphs to Steelhead flies. Some types of feathers respond better to it than others.
