Thread: Feb SOTM - Catskill Dries

Default Feb SOTM - Catskill Dries

A few months into winter at this point, I've been mostly working on my bottom dredgers - stoneflies, caddis, big GRHE. I need some relief, and hopefully you do too. I need thoughts of springtime and splashy rises to big mayflies taking a long time to dry off their wings after emergence - conveyor belts of bugs feeding giddy trout, happy to have held over. To help us ease the pain of winter, let's do some nice big, bushy Catskill dries, accurate proportions and all. There is a good book or two on this stuff, and a few DVDs. Order your blue dun capes and woodduck flank.

    I'll PM my address individually.

I think this is a great idea for the Feb. swap. It will be a good and fun challenge to try some of the most famous classic flies. Will P.M. when I can decide on a pattern.

OUCH!!! You found my weakness. I am not much of a dry fly tyer. However I will attempt a Dun Variant. I am warning you they may not be pretty.

I'm the new guy to the group. (Slot #2)

I'll tie a Catskill Light Cahill. This fly worked quite well for me last year during the evening hatch.

I'll do a Catskill Dark Cahill.
Any thoughts on a compensation for postage?

Yup, branhap is now in "slot # 2".

I'm tempted to tie a former fly of the week called a "Catskill"... matter of fact, I think I shall.

I was thinking about that one too. I didn't have any recipes on hand for Catskills, and that was the 2nd one that came up on my search. However, I have the materials for the cahill! Heh

I'm no good at dry flies either, and I have all of these capes that I've had for years. As for postage, what was it last time?

Do the Wulf-style patterns qualify for a Catskill Fly?
