Orvis Silver Label HLS
I bought one of these last night. Only because the price was right. It was essentially free as I would have paid the full price I paid for the reel alone. Anyway, I know nothing about this model and can't seem to find anything online. Looking for where it fit in their line (mid level, entry level?), when were they produced? How is the action on these things? Any insight you may have would be great! Thanks!

My recollection (which may be incorrect) was that the HLS (High Line Speed I think) was in the middle of their line in the mid '90s. "Saltrodder" may have been a version of the HLS with SW hardware. These were mid to tip flex I think. PM-10 was at the top of the line and were all tip flex I think. Superfine were the mid and full flex trout and bass ( up to 8wt) rods. The Superfine came in Superfine, Rocky Mountain, and Green Mountain versions with less expensive hardware in each case. Orvis did away with the Rocky Mountain and Green Mountain version. Silver Label series was added which were PM-10, HLS, and Superfine with less expensive hardware and finish on the rods.

Thanks guys! That clears up a lot! I also sent an email to Orvis last night just to see what the deal was. Basically what I was told was that my particular model (8'6" 4wt) would fit somewhere around a mid flex 7. The broken Silver Labels that come in now are being replaced with the TLS Power Matrix series and that's about where they fit it. My particular rod was built it 2001. Its cool to be able to get a little history about these things! I was told when the T3 was released, the Trident TL (top of the line at the time) was fitted with less expensive hardware and sold as the Trident TLS, which then replaced the Silver Label series. By the way, I got this rod and a 3/4 british made Battenkill with gen 3 wonderline for $100, I think I did good!

I thought so too. Not sure if I'll keep any or all of it, I need another 4 weight like I need a hole in the head, the price was just too good to pass up. Guy I got it from was selling because he just didn't use it. It shows! Cork isn't soiled or anything, it looks like it was never touched
