    Default okuma reels

Has anyone used the Okuma 8/9 wt. Helios reel yet? Any pros or cons?

I know a few guys who are starting to use these in the salt in the UK. For the price is looks to be a very well put together reel. I am looking to buy the 5/6 for my 5 weight saltwater rod. Here are some comments someone who reviewed the 8/9 reel made.

1 - This is one hell of a little reel for the price
2 - The drag is sealed and maintenance free
3 - The drag is silky smooth
4 - The overall finish of the product is excellent - looks and feels like a reel twice the price.
5 - The drag adjustment Knob is large - serrated and easy to adjust.
6 - Its made out of a strong Aluminum - so drop it and it wont break

When I quizzed him further he said that the start up inertia was negligable and that he had fitted a #9 Rio Outbound and 200 metres of 15lb backing (not sure if the b/s of the backing is right).

I have only had a little play with one in the shop and think it looks to be a bargain.

Here are some pics the guy took with the good old System 2 and a Vosseler DC4.

I have a 6 wt that I'm very happy with. A lot of bang for the buck.

I have salt spinning gear from Okuma and it works great. They make great reels for the salt, not sure on the fly reels.
