Thread: Spey reel?

    Default Spey reel?

    Hey guys.
I have my new Beulah Spey 12'6"" 6wt.
Can I use my Presige Plus Cabelas II flyreel large arbor with this rod? Is a reel for 6-7wt regular flyrods.
I'm new on spey and I was wondering if I need something special for this rod.
Any other rec. will be apreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.

As a general rule Spey reels are larger than normal. This is becouse a Spey line is way more bulky than a normal line. However if you are useing a Skagit or a Scandi line then your reel will be just fine. Remember there is a good chance you will be casting longer distances so just make sure you can fit plenty of backing on the spool.
If you decide on a full spey line you will need to go to a bigger reel, I use a BFR Magnum and can fit a full spey line and about 100m of backing on that.
    All the best.
    Mike.
