Default How many of you have completed the Wyoming Cutt-Slam?

Just wondering how many faol members have completed the Wyoming Cutt-Slam? If you haven't heard, the Wyoming fish and game will present you with a certificate if you show proof of catching the four cutts in wyoming. Cool deal!!! Go to Wyoming fish and game to see for yourself. I think I may do it.

Here is the link. http://gf.state.wy.us/services/custo...slam/index.asp If I ever get out there again, I'll be sure to give it a go. What they don't make clear is how does one have to go about verifying it? Hopefully you don't have to take a dead fish into a biologist...which is what the application sort of suggests.

It says on the application to submit your photos/application to the biologists...so, CPR should still work.

When we left Wyoming in '03 I was one short. I believe it was the Bonneville cutt. Maybe some day.

Around here we had cutts that everyone, state biologists included, knew were all Colorado River cutts. Then they sent some in for DNA work, and lo and behold, they all turned into endangered Greenbacks, thought to only be on the other side of these 14,000 foot mountains. You can't always tell from a photo.

That being said, I personally wouldn't feel all warm and fuzzy about going somewhere remote to catch a rare and endangered fish just so I could have a certificate saying I had caught every kind of cutt around.

PS. California has a similar program called the heritage trout challenge.

PPS. What ARE the four kinds? For some reason I get five when I think hard, maybe even six.

The four kinds in Wyoming are...

    Snake River
    Yellowstone (I've caught this one!)
    Bonneville (Bear River)
    Colorado River

Next year... aiming for the Colorado River strain.

    Hmmm.

There are westslope cutts in the upper Gallatin, whose headwaters are in Wyoming. I have not personally caught one IN Wyoming, but I have caught a couple within a couple hundred yards or so of the border.

I am pretty sure there are greenbacks as well, now that the DNA work is being done, although I would have to dig out a paper from my files at work to be sure. And I could be wrong, it might be the CRCT I am thinking of.

And for those of you who might not know why people would get all excited about these things, I leave you with the following photos.

Fished all over Wyoming and had GREAT fun doing so. Probably caught all the qualifiers more than once. Don't need no stinkin certificate
