    Question Branson, MO fishing question

I have a fishing friend who is going to Branson in a few days and he was wondering about any fishing prospects. He is an ultra light spin fisherman and he will be joined by a cousin who fly fishes. Need info on where, when and what to use for either trout or smallies. Your help is greatly appreciated, he is being dragged to a family reunion and thought this would break up the long days with the outlaws. Again thanks!

Taneycomo's not happening without a boat...

If you want smallies, well, that's probably not going to happen either with all the rain they've had lately.

So, basically, it's either get a boat for Taneycomo, get a boat and fish still water, or he's slap out of luck.

Table Rock is a pretty big lake and there's a trout hacthery down on the spillway with release pipes right into the White River. Tell him to check out Big Ceder down in Ridgedale (10 miles south of Branson). It's the big BassPro resort right on Table Rock. There are all kind of floating and permant docks to fish from.

When in doubt, check out the MO DNR web site.

Tell them to look up Lilley's Landing. Phil Lilley is THE spin-jig and high water fishing expert for Taneycomo in Branson. He owns a resort and marina on the upper end right at Fall Creek (just below the trophy management zone). He has a couple of websites that will Google easily.

If they want to do a great drift boat fly fishing guide deal, call Michael Kyle at Backcountry Outfitters in Springfield, MO. Michael is a streamer specialist and grew up fishing Taneycomo and the White River system for trout and bass. And I've seen him produce fish on Taneycomo during extremely high water conditions when no one else could...myself included. He's also a TU and FFF board members/officer from the local to national level - a real activist volunteer who pours TONS of time, energy, and his own money into the natural resources, people, and future of fly fishing. Great guy!

The brown's are spawning. Great fishing on Tanney. Second the idea of going to Lilly's and renting a boat.

A couple of my customers have said the water levels aren't as bad below Bull Shoals, which is the next lake downstream from Taneycomo and not too far from Branson. Also, Norfork might be worth checking out. Often times they aren't running water when everyone else down there is.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

Thanks for the help everyone. My friend Rich is leaving Monday a.m. and will be bringing a printout of your comments with him. To say he was impressed with the quick responses would be a big understatement. I talk about what is on the BB when we're on our way fishing but know he knows what a great site this is!!!

Get in touch with Night Angler. He posts in the fishing report section from about now through March. He guides at night at Taneycomo for huge browns and rainbows and is really good at it. It's wade fishing as far as I know with 7 to 9 wt rods and big streamers. Search him out and send him an email.

This is the time when the bigguns move up to the dam.

All 4 generators plus the flood gates until Wednesday or Thursday (lake level has to reach 91, according to Ozarkanglers.com. Then down to 2 generators 24/7. Limited wading on 2 gennys...
