Default Viagra for a Double Bunny

Instead of heavy mono, I use a short section of a zip tie, lashed to the hook shank, extending about 1" past the bend (easily adjustable depending in the length of the fly) to keep the tail from fouling. These are pretty small zip ties, about 4" long and 2 mm wide. Work great, easier for me than the heavy mono since they lie flat on the hook shank. Sorry, no pics, but this is pretty self explanitory.

Sounds like a good idea. I have recently started tying some longer saltwater streamers with an anti-foul loop of mono. It is pretty tough to get the mono to stay on the hook shank properly. I have some smallish zip ties that should work. I will give it a try.

    Thanks!

Do you put a thread / glue below the the Zip tie to keep if from sliding down?

    Thanks

take your mono and a pair of flat (no ridging) blade needle nose pliers, and flatten the mono. Flip the pliers over every couple of crimps, so it don't curl the mono

Ha, just back from Harbor Freight and there were some welders pliers on sale....nice size rather big flat jaws....wondered if they could be used in tying....should work for the flattening mentioned ...but I've got plenty of short all most unusable zip ties that should work....

I cover the hook shank with thread (flat wax works best for me), then wrap the zip tie on the hook shank and coat with Crazy Glue. Think I payed $1.50 for a bag of 100 ties.

If you're tying a streamer with a single rabbit strip, like a zonker, cut the protruding end of the zip tie to a point, make a hole in the rabbit strip at a point where the zip tie would protrude through about 1/4 inch, poke the strip through the hole before securing the strip onto the hook (if the fly is riding hook-up, you'll want to pierce the strip for the hook point first, slip it on the hook, poke the zip tie in then secure the strip at the front).

    Scott
