    Part of the problem, of course, is that American pronunciation of Latin words follows the British model, which is gibberish to most Europeans. You'll hear congressmen adjourning "sine die", and pronouncing it "sign-ee die" when the correct (European) pronunciation is "seen-ay dee-ay".

    Chironomidae: Key-row-nome'-ih-dee, with the accent on "nome". According to my dictionary, the "ae" combination may be pronounced either "ee" or "eh" which, of course means that most of us are also mispronouncing Baetis, which should not be "bay-tiss" but "bee-tiss" or "beh-tiss", also see Callibaetis.
