Thread: Lion fish!!!

    Default Lion fish!!!

So I allow my 11 y/o son to use "our" tying stuff and he enjoys the craft. I must admit his wolly bugger are getting pretty good and he ties a marabou streamer he calls a "backtracker" that have been effective on panfish & small bass. the other Day I went down to our tying are and he could not wait to show me his new creation. Seems he could not figure out what stripped goose quill biots were for, so he used them "his" way. I can imaging throwin this guy in the pond and see all the bluegills scatter in a panic!!! This thing looks MEAN!!! We got a good laugh out out it. He now knows that Biots are not for palmering!!!!! Can't blame him for experimenting!!!

Here are his "backtrackers" - His own creation!!!

That' awesome! It's great when the kids tie too. I really enjoy it when mine do.

    Keep it fun,

You have got to try that thing! It may be the next great fly.

Or it could just scare the hell out of every fish in the pond.
For God's sake, Don't Quote me! I'm Probably making this crap up!

    Hello Brannon,

I love that palmer experiment; I have to try it and make some legs from it.

Check the Fall 09 issue of 'Hatches' , they show a version of the 'Yallar Hammer' where the palmered flicker substitute looks very close to the palmered biots on the 'Lion Fish'....I'd try it!!

With what? A pair of Turkey wing feathers???

I think this fly should be christened "Fly-Zilla"

Actually, I like the goose biot palmered fly. I think it would catch fish. I may try that myself, in all black.

    Kudos to the youngster.
