Thread: 2 flys fished

    Default 2 flys fished

I have seen posts and other sites talk about fishing a dry fly with a nymph trailering under it. Can anyone send me or post a pic showing that set up. I am wondering about the knot used for that also as i am assuming that you dont use a swivel or something similar..... just curious

    Dear baggyman,

The easiest way to fish a nymph below a dry fly is to take a length of tippet and tie it to the bend of the dry fly hook using a clinch knot. A section anywhere from 24 to 48 inches should work depending on the depth you wish to fish.

Tie your nymph to the other end of the tippet and you are all set.

It will take some experimenting for you to figure out what size dry fly is needed to suspend the nymphs without dragging it under but it's not too hard to figure out.

    Regards,
    Tim Murphy

Cool thanks. Thought that might be the case to do a dropper loop or spiderhitch for attachment of the second fly. I like the idea off a the tag end or the bend of the hook. Seems like less line and mess all around. but then again i am just sitting at the computer thinking of this.. ill prob change my mind when i get on the water

baggyman I second Tims way of doing it. This is the way I do it also and found it to be the easiest way for me. I normaly go with a 24 inch leader off the bend of the hook. Have fun.

Easiest for me is to take length needed for dropper into account when tying on top fly, leave a long tag end, and tie point (dropper) fly to it.

You can also tie the dropper into the eye of the top fly.

    Hey Baggy,

I fish a dropper a lot here on our lake
for bluegills and red eared sunfish. As
Tim said, I tie my dropper line to the hook
bend of my primary fly with a cinch knot.
But I normally fish a dropper of 12 to 18
inches. Depends on your waters. Where ever
the fish are holding, you want to dangle
the dropper in thier face.*G* Warm regards,
    Jim

I have fun using two wet flies, say a #10 wet hackle with a #16 midge pupa trailing it. Lots of fun. Which fly will the fish take?
