Thread: cold water

    Default cold water

Why isn't there a cold water forum? I see warm water and saltwater. Before I started reading this site I always thought fly fishing was just for trout in cold water rivers and streams. I never dreamed you could fly fish anywhere..

    Thumbs up Good Question!

    Hi D,

I think I've been around long enough to answer this question but Ladyfisher might like to step in and answer this one. When it started out, the entire FAOL site was a cold water, trout oriented site. Fly fishing basically referred to trout fishing. The salt water and warm water sections were then added to cover special interest fishing. Since trout were always the prime area of interest, no special section was thought to be needed. It might not be a bad idea to have a cold water section. Just my 2% of a dollar. I'm sure others will disagree.

Thanks for a good question David. Eight Thumbs, your answer makes perfect sense to me, it is one of the unstated assumptions of the board that is helpful for newbies to know.

Well, there was a stillwater forum added not too long ago...unfortunately JC called it "Frog Water Forum" ..[he had his personal reasons for the name]...IMHO the name was one of the reasons it didn't make it....JC removed it....we had a lot of discussion about it.

I still would like to see a forum called..."Stillwater"

I always just assumed the "Fly Anglers Online" Forum was the "cold water forum".

The warm water forum was added to keep the degenerates like me in there.

And yes you can fish for most anything with a fly rod.

    My personal 'take':
    -Trout, rainbow, brown, brook, cutthroat.
    -Bass, largemouth, rock.
    -Bluegill, you name it.
-Crappie, couldn't tell a black from a white from a whatever.
    -Catfish
    -Fallfish
Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.

    Default For Big Bad Wulff

Next time you catch a crappie check the number of sharp spines on the dorsal fin.
    5 or 6 sharp = white, 7 or 8 = black.

The Hot Water forum would be the home of the NBOF.
