    Default Bluegill and Summer Speck

No bass this morning at Lake Manatee -- even though I got to fish about 40 minutes before sunrise. Not even a lost fish. The bluegill bite was off somewhat, too.

But I finally got into them later in the morning. Caught about 15 hand-sized bluegill and one really nice speckled perch. All on my Myakka Minnow. The speck (black crappie) was a surprise this time on year. Caught it in a creek channel around a submerged bush.

    Home by noon.

    Male bluegill:

Looks like a great time on the water. There is something relaxing about panfish on a fly.

If you feel like trying a surface pattern. On my blog in my fly box is a pattern called the Elk Hair Cricket. It is my go-to bluegill pattern. Good fishin!
