    Default Hand tied flies

Everyone is selling "HAND TIED' flies, is there a machine tied fly?
If there is I sure would like to see one.

Krause, I've always thought "hand-tied" flies was kind of redundant.

Wouldn't that be false advertising? I submit that "hand tied" indicates no use of vise...

Kind of like restaurants that list "home made" foods on their menus. Occasionally I'll ask a server who's home it was made in- just get blank stares, and mumbling, in response. Oh- and I will never drink a "hand crafted" drink. Keep your paws out of my food!

Wouldn't that be hand-held? If "hand tied" indicates no use of vise it should should also indicate the use of no tools (bobbin, bodkin scissors etc). Or does using a vice constitute 'vice tied' fly?

I say we close this can of worms and weld the sucker shut!

All fly tiers probably agree that flies cant not be machine tied. I think that 'hand crafted' fits what most of us tie versus 'mass produced' flies that are coming out of Asia.

Where did you see flies advertised as "Hand Tied" ? Been around a long time and I for one only read the words now and then on a forum like FAOL. Flies tied without a vise are also not known as hand tied. We do use scissors. BILL

Most flies are hand tied. A lot of advertisers use this term but whether they are tied in Arizona, Africa, India or the UK they are still tied by hand. Just a marketing term I believe!

Reading parts of that link reminds me of the two weeks I spent on a federal jury for a patent infringement case...talk about bored to tears.

I seen soft plastic nymphs formed right on the hook.
    No tying involved
