Thread: Mink

    Default Mink

I just recieved four complete mink, head to tail. I did a little research and found there are quite a few patterns using mink. Also found they make fairly good zonker strips and it looks like they can be dyed fairly easy.

Just curious as to whether anyone uses the mink much and what you like to tie with it.

Mink tail hair makes great tails for dry flies.

Thanks for the reply folks. I am looking forward to using it. I will probably dye some of it and keep the rest natural.

Mink is excellent for dubbing. Blend it with guard hairs for a buggy dubbing. Or blend just the underfur for some of the best dry fly dubbing you will come across.

i use it for dubbing, tail material on older paterns, and have tied a few crawfish using cut strips as claws... the skin i use for deer hair mouse tails, feets & ears cause its thin, easy to work with and fairly strong...
