    The stem wheels and pencils are great ideas BUT I mainly tie warm water flies and they tend to be be on the big side.

    My present block is about 8" long x 5" wide and is a foam or sorts not styro and has a recessed center which makes for easy mounting of the flies and it doesn't crumble.

    I think it was the packing insert that surrounded the door handle of my storm door.

    Thumbs up Foam Wheel

    That foam wheel is a great idea. I didn't know they existed. When I tie up a bunch of midges I coat them with Sally Hanson and let 'em dry. I'm always having trouble with finding a place to put them while they're drying. Problem solved.
