    Default Dumb, Simple, Stupid Idea

Hope this has already been posted at some time, though I suspect not as indicated in a recent thread regarding water based cements.

Well, what I do is tie flies and hook them into a block of styro or any packing material type block...then, cement them all at once.

No need to dry cement in the vise.

NO waiting no muss, no fuss.

Hareline Dubbin also makes a foam "wheel" they call it "Vise Fly Rack", that fits around the main post on the vise. There are 16 slots in the foam to hold flies in progress. Tie up a bunch, slip them into the slots, cement them all up, and while they're drying, tie up a bunch more!! They come two to a pack, take up virtually no room, won't destroy your hand if you bump it, and will handle big or small flies.

I haven't put head cement on a fly in decades. It just seemed like a huge & messy waste of time.

    Hi Betty,
Hey, I searched up Hareline Dubbin and their web site sez they only sell to businesses, manufacturers, and commercial tyers. See Here.

But not to worry, I can always make my own. Maybe I'll punch them out and sell only to deserving individuals on fixed incomes.
And state NO businesses, Manufactures, or Commercial tyers!

I cut some advertising refrigerator magnets into strips and put them on the arm of the light on my tying bench. When I finish a fly I take it out of the vise and put it there. The flies hang hook eye down and when I finish tying I put on head cement and put them back on the magnets to dry.

    All good ideas...

Since I sometimes find myself gripping the wet glue when removing a fly...here's how I do it on certain size flies....use golf pencils that have an eraser..[yes golfers do use erasers]

the horizontal pencil in the picture shows impaling the fly to remove it from the vice....

Hey, I like that pencil idea!
I wonder how many #28's would fit on a pencil?
