What flies are good for using up some rabbit body hair.

Most natural dubbing is Rabbit fur died and shaved, look up Kool Aid dye and make your own dubbing, you can also use it as nature dyed it.


you can also cut zonker strips out of the skins.

If I were limited to one tying material other than thread and a hook, I would pick rabbit fur. It is one of the most versatile materials that can be used for everything from small dry flies to large streamers. Use your imagination and give it a try, I think you'll find rabbit fur can be substituted for a wide variety of materials for tails, bodies and wings.

One suggestion. If you clip the fur from the hide take the opportunity to separate fur from the lightest color areas from the darkest thus giving you two colors of dubbing as needed for Hare's Ear nymphs etc. Also, don't clip the coarse hair from around the face and ears until you want to use it because you'll want to clip and tie it in as a bunch.
