Recommendations on a stream side camera. No DSLRS.

I have a Canon G10 and don't like it.

Many people hear swear by the Optios. That looks great to me. I wonder why you don't see them at Best Buy and those places(or I never have).

water resistant
good macro
not hard to run
durable
not large

Just wondering why you turned sour on the Cannon G10 ???
You knew it was not waterproof when you purchased it and seemed very pleased with the camera when you first got it.
What changed ???
I'm asking because I also have a G10 and still think it?s the greatest thing since sliced bread.

looking for quick shots on stream.
longer i dink with the camera...
the better chance the trout may not live.

It is a good scenery camera if is isn't sunny out.

Getting sick of having to tweak lots of the photos.

Looking at the specs on the link you provided, it looks like Pentax is trying to catch up with Olympus on their Stylus SW and Tough series. Good for them. The Optio W80 will go deeper underwater ( further than I want to go ! ), won't take as big a fall, and has the same below freezing rating, as the SWs. One feature I think you will like on the W80 is the 30 seconds of "video."

I've seen some awesome pics taken with the Pentax Optio series cameras, including great underwater and macros pics, and have nothing against them. The only criticism I've heard is that they do not have a lens cover, but it isn't clear if the Optio W80 does or not. The Olympus SW and Tough cameras do have lens covers.

Having said that, I'm a big fan of the Olympus 850SW. For examples of what it will do, you can run through the fishing reports I've done and look at the desktops images on the FAOL Forum.

I have a furled lanyard attached to my Olympus. I put the camera in the pocket of a jacket, if I am wearing one, or inside my shirt. As soon as I get a fish which feels like it wants it pic taken, I can pull the camera out, turn it on with one hand, set it for the mode, and then let it dangle til I have the fish where I want it for the pic. It takes only seconds to frame and shoot the pic, adding practically no time at all to the length of time a fish is out of the water and being handled.

Looking forward to the results you get with whatever camera you decide to go with.

i have the optio w30 and thats plenty of camera for me. i use the macro quite a bit to photograph my flies. and i dont even shoot in the 7 megapixel mode!

i will say that i have no problems with the lens having no cover. there are so many filters out there in the camera world that could be bonded on to eliminate any problems.

one other problem that is bigger than the lens cover thing is that there is no optical view finder. that is more of a problem when taking photos out in the sun because you have to put the subject in the lcd screen and take the photo
