bobbin and tying thread tip

if you have a problem of your tying thread backing out of the tube on your bobbin holder and have to rethread it, you may want to try one of these ideas.

take a look at the first two items in the following link. the first one are miniature o rings that would slip over the tube of the bobbin and capturing the thread along side of the bobbin holder tube

the second items appear to be caps from a grazy glue bottle or something similar that would also capture the thread along side of the bobbin holder tube

I have a few of those things that look like Crazy Glue caps. Got them from Norm at Nor-Vise for use on his bobbin holders. They keep the clutch from rewinding the thread between flies. Great idea for those who don't take a couple of turns of thread around the bobbin rest.

This just reminded me - what is a bobbin and what is a bobbin holder? I call the tool that holds the spool of thread a bobbin, but what then is a bobbin holder? Or is the bobbin only a piece of the bobbin holder?

The tool is a bobbin holder.

A bobbin is the spool of thread. More specifically the spool itself. The same as on a sewing machine.

Depends on where you are. In the US, most tiers refer to the tool that holds the spool of thread as a bobbin. In the Europe the tool is called a bobbin holder and the spool is a bobbin. Just a little something to cause extra confusion.

If I'm dressing flies from the UK I'll call it the bobbin holder. I'll also drink some fine tea from the UK when dressing those flies, not my usual double espresso.

i think the word bobbin is universal and not restricted to countries
