Simple Hex Nymph.

Anyone have a link or recipe for a simple Hex Nymph? going to fish around the islands of Lake Erie (Kelly's-Put-in-Bay) and someone mentioned trying these..would like to try and tie a few before I head out there.

The simplest I know of is Spring's wiggler. It is a squirrel tail tail and shellback pulled over a tan chenneille body with badger hackle palmered the full length before the shellback si pullee over and trimmed to the hook gap on the bottom. I usually counter wrap the hackle ith fine wire.

I tie a hex that is a what I would refer to as generic, I studied a handful of recipes and put something together that works. Once you see a few different recipes you can get the basics of what makes the pattern effective. If you do decide to put the time into it I would recomend Jeff "Bear" Andrews hex pattern it is in the archieves in the 4th qtr of 2000 under Bear's hex nymph. It has proven to be a very effective Great lake pattern for smallies, trout(especially BIG browns), steelhead, and salmon.
