Thumbs up 2009 FAOL PA Fish-In Wrap Up

Another successful Pennsylvania Fish-In is now in the books. Despite some "challenging" weather conditions, we were able to find (and catch) fish. It rained every day except Saturday, and the streams were affected accordingly. Even the Little Pine had some flows that were really rippin' at times. Fortunately, what goes up, must come down, and the crew at the Fish-In didn't give up. Persistence pays off.

As usual, it was great to see the crew at the Fish-In again. We had a few newcomers show up, and true to form, they were all really nice folks. It was great to meet farleycat, CaseyP, KMichaels, and Croatalus after corresponding with them on the board - they're wonderful people, and fit in perfectly with the PA Fish-In "brothers" (they brought some awesome dessert treats too!). Special thanks to Croatalus (Joe) - he drove several hours to bring us a dvd of the Pine Creek episode of TU's "On The Rise", which we all gathered around the big screen tv in the lodge to watch. I had the good fortune to be able to fish with Joe as well - he's one heck of a good fisherman!

This year was the first year for a "shore lunch", and it was a resounding success. We had a pretty large group gathered at the old campground area on the Big Pine, and a good time was had by all.

A BIG THANKS to the founder of the PA Fish-In (dry fly guy), and the organizers & cooks (bigdadyrods and wetflyguy) - you guys did your usual first rate job.

For anyone that tooks pictures and would like them to be included in the 2009 PA Fish-In photo album, please email them to me at etmaurer@rcn.com and I'll add them in as I get them.

    H.A.,

Thanks for posting the nice slide show. Next best thing to being there! Looking forward to more details. With all the food pictures (and it looked like no one suffered much!) I'm surprised to see any fishing getting done!

Well done everyone, looked like it was a great time.

    H.A. -

Great slideshow. Course, you couldn't have a great slideshow if everyone wasn't having a great time !!

The trip home from the fish-in was quite productive Ed, thanks for the stream info. What a gorgeous place, I got 4 brookies, one was a 7 incher. Saw 4 or 5 large rainbows under one of the bridges. Fished upper Pine in Galeton, the water was really rippin' there compared to last year. Not much action but there were fish rising here and there. Had a few takes on Gray Foxes. Got home at 10 pm. I just got up at 2 pm!! That was a hard 5 days! WOW! I was nowhere near that tree!

Sounds like a fantastic trip. Nice crowd and the food looked superb. Especially the hot tub chicken - hilarious! Also, it's nice to see there are other cast iron devotees out there.
    I think, therefore I fish.

I had a great time even though i was only there for a few hours. I am already looking forward to next year and spending a couple of days there. Ed is a little generous with his "good fisherman" statement though - he was the one catching trout while I was catching carp

I recommend this group of guys to anyone looking to attend a Fish-In!!

    Let's get the story straight......
Ed only took pictures of HIS fish and no one else. We all wondered if he didn't take those pics somewhere else.... I saw him catch the one fish...but it wasn't that big from where I was standing but maybe it was...you decide......
I caught one big one but I don't have time to take pics

Oh yea..Wizard, I was there. I heard the thump and saw the tree shake and sway after you struck it. Thought it was going to topple over.

To set the record straight--- I had nothing to do with frying that camera!!!!!! It fell by accident, I think it was someone else's fault..The wind blew really hard that day, the wind took it out of Bernie's hand and dropped it in the oil. I could have left it in the oil and then you would have been tasting camera parts while devouring those turkeys....

You kow, we had a guy at the lodge that had a setting on his camera set for "food"..can you imagine that???? See that pic of the cobbler with ice cream tittled "mifnite snack"??? Guess who ate that snack?????

What about feeding the bears???? That little cub was hungry too.
Who stole flymans 3 rod anyway???? What a dasterdly deed that was to take the man's rod like that.

Oh yea, how was your cooler when you got home there Heritage???? Anything exciting in there???

BTW--Guys- I reserved the lodge again for next year. Check your calendar when Memorial Day is and see what days fall after that holiday. I will be sending out a notice to all asking for next years ideas. I have some already.
We can actually get another day in if we want to. they are will to give it to me for 5 days instead of 4.
Give me your comments on what you would like to see different, change, not change, etc.

It was a great year and I had fun doing it. I was glad to see some new faces.

    Randy
